I bought mine about 8.15 this morning, There were three on offer. When I went back around 10am the other two were still there. Obviously there are a lot of people who won't take the stuff!
I've pigged out on the grapes for my evening meal and I've chopped and frozen the mushrooms. Tomorrow I shall prep and freeze the sprouts. I will also freeze the peppers I have in the fridge as these new ones look better and will keep for salad use this week. The potatoes will go into the general store apart from a few which will be combined with the leeks to make soup. The apples and satsumas will go in the fruit bowl the aubergine will be aubergine parmigiana later this week. I haven't decided what to do with the pal choi.
I don't know about that! This is a "waste not" box, ie stuff which has to be sold pretty sharpish. I've costed that lot at Sainsbury and it would be £12.80 at normal prices. Would that be com[arable?
Wow, what a great haul of veggies and fruit. I wish we had something like this in one of our stores here. It would save so much from hitting the grocery dumpsters.
Don't you worry on that score - I shall. As I said to Jackie (above) public opinion forced this one on the supermarkets. I understand that in France it is illegal for supermarkets to dump edible food but I haven't checked that.
Our Lidl in France has these sometimes, but they're often filled with just one thing - I don't want ten bunches of brown bananas, or twelve sad cauliflowers.... But once or twice I've done well.
Sadly they had all gone when we went to our local store.
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't get one,

DeleteWow I've heard of these boxes, looks very good value.
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant! Lots of portions of fruit and veg and there was nothing I had to throw away.
DeleteGosh your prices are so much cheaper than here in New Sealand

ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The supermarkets get really bad publicity if they put stuff in the skip. Public opinion has forced this on them.
ReplyDeleteThat is great. I wish our grocery stores did that, enjoy!
