A busy month ahead

You may remember that way back in August I wrote that the kitchen floor has to be replaced and it was not going to be a quick or easy job.  I reduced my freezer stocks, I organised help from various people, I started to sort things out.  So my freezer stocks reduced, my cupboards got sorted and I got my head around thoughts of disruption and I heard NOTHING.  Christmas came and the freezer got refilled, life happened and the cupboards became unsorted and my friends kept asking when the floor would be done.

Last week I checked up and it looks as though the maintenance file for my house has got well-and-truly misplaced so I got a visit from a rather bigger cheese who is now trying to sort it.  Which means I now need to sort things as well.  To be fair I need various kicks in the posterior to get my whole life sorted as I am quite amazingly disorganised and untidy so February is Get It Sorted month.  It is also a fun month so it will be busy!  My great friend and gardener and handyman Jack came on Monday and we started to sort the garage so that the kitchen stuff can be stored in there.  The photos were taken after two of us had done a whole day's sorting and we'd taken two car loads to the tip!!

I shall probably move out while the work is done so I'm hoping that when I move back in it will be to a more organised home.  (Just noticed pigs preparing for take off.)

  1. Having work done to the kitchen is incredibly disruptive - I think it's an excellent idea to have a base away from the workmen! Jx

    1. The surveyor was rather concerned because I am "mobility challenged" and will recommend to the landlord (a national charity) that I should be encouraged to keep out of the way so I am hoping they may arrange alternative accommodation.

  2. Well at least it looks like it will finally be fixed but goodness! I can't believe they misplaced your file. That's pretty sad!

    1. I had a bit of a giggle actually. When the surveyor came I happened to go to the door carrying my walking stick which I rarely use in the house. He's now decided that I have to be protected from any trip hazards. 'Elf 'n safety now works in my favour.

  3. You always have to nag companies these days. Very few seem to be willing to part with the money with any speed! I'm glad you will have a comfortable home to return to once the work has been completed.

    1. Actually I think my landlord is great. Stuff happens! I pay a more than reasonable rent and usually the response is excellent. I'll give it a couple of weeks then recontact if nothing has happened but truth to tell, it will take me while to get ready for the work.

  4. I am so sorry your file got lost! That is no good. But, at least you are back in the queue and getting sorted out. I wouldn't worry so much about it -- I have learned that sorting is not one of those jobs that ever gets finished -- it is ongoing.

  5. I am thrilled to hear that at long last the work will be done, hopefully you will be able to move out for a little while. Look on it as a bit of a holiday.

    1. By the time it happens it will be a very well-earned holiday. And I don't know why I'm moaning - your month will be MUCH busier than mine!

  7. Having been through it recently, you have my best wishes for the job to be done quickly and with as little dust as possible! You will need to organise a house clean before coming home. No matter how well they fasten protective sheeting the dust gets EVERYWHERE! I can recommend Merry Maids in Lincoln. It is a wonderful idea to get away....just don't forget to take some of your crafting stuff. Will be thinking about you. Mx
